Tooltip Goodness!

Just uploaded another update to the site! I changed the way the offers are displayed. Now instead of showing the address of the room/apartment within the table, the posting date is displayed. I think that information is much more useful to the user as now it is directly obvious how old the posting is.

The good thing about it: the address information didn’t get lost. The mouse just has to be positioned over one of the rows and 500ms later a well designed tooltip will pop up with title, address and advertiser information.

The site just got better again! How do you like it?

Upgrade Successful!

roomsDB.net is online again since yesterday again after a major upgrade! The site is now running on a dedicated server as I told you in the previous posting!

I had to rewrite all the .php script files because my new dedicated server is running the most recent version of the php scripting engine and not everything was 100% compatible. However, I did it! Cost me quite some sleep actually, but I just can’t stand roomsDB.net to be offline.

If you come across any problems, please let me know!

Upgrade

As you have seen on the video (…which took some time to record..haha), roomsDB.net is upgrading! The site grew like crazy over the last few months. roomsDB.net had 20 times more traffic in the beginning of July than it had in beginning of April and this development doesn’t seem to stop! One of the reasons for this huge success for sure was the blog marketing campaign that I had advertlets.com run for me.

As a precaution, I had to invest in roomsDB.net and upgrade to a dedicated server! Yes, roomsDB.net now has it’s own Internet server that does nothing else than help you to rent or rent out a room in Singapore!

Isn’t that damn expensive, you might ask. And I might answer you: yes, it is! Fortunately, some of you did click on the Google text advertisements on the site, so now the money that I make with those Google ads is directly reinvested into the site to pay the dedicated server. I hope you aprreciate that and support the site! Tell everybody you know about it, write in your blog about it, you could even tell your mom.

So here are the specs of the dedicated roomsDB.net server:

CPU Specs: 2 * 1800 Mhz
RAM: 2048 MB
HD: 2* 250 GB
Traffic: unlimited
Internet Connection: 100MBit

Yeah, that should do the trick for handling all that traffic! What I am doing these days is migrating all the data and adjusting all the .php scripts since the new server runs a new version and is not 100% compatible. I hope roomsDB.net is online on wednesday again, but that should work!

Firefox Optimisation

Hey there, just uploaded another update. The site is now also optimised to be viewed with Mozilla Firefox browser. Before, the site was just optimised for Internet Explorer and therefore looked better in the IE. Now, it looks good in both major browsers!

10000 pageviews/day

Oh yes! roomsDB.net is growing AND GROWING! Doesn’t stop to grow! Yesterday marked a new record, singapore.roomsDB.net had fantastic 9914 pageviews! On a single day! It is just a matter of days until it reaches the 10000 pageviews/day mark…. unbelievable!

Actually for me that means I have to invest more in the site now. I will move to a dedicated server soon to make sure that the performance stays as good as it is now. This means, soon there will be a dedicated roomsDB.net server on the net, doing nothing else but making sure everybody can access roomsDB.net as fast as possible.

The word seems to get out more and more!! Very happy about that, Sebastian
